SYRIA, Decapolis. Gadara. Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar. 139-161 AD. Æ 24mm (9.37 gm). Dated year 223 (159/60 AD). Bare-headed and draped bust right / Tyche standing left, holding sceptre and cornucopiae, being crowned by Nike on column. Spijkerman 50; Rosenberger 53. Near EF, green and earthen patina. Rare. ($300)
Both Spijkerman and Rosenberger attribute this coin to Lucius Verus, but it is dated a year before Verus became co-emperor. It is in fact one of the rare issues with Aurelius' given name, Marcus Annius Verus.
