JUSTIN II. 565-578 AD. AV Semissis (2.27 gm). Sicilian mint. Dated Indictional year 10 (576/7 AD). Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Victory seated right, inscribing shield; * to left, curved reversed P-headed cross to right, I/CONOB. DOC II -; cf. MIB III 24b; cf. Fairhead & Hahn,
Monte Judica Hoard, 129; cf. SB 416D. EF, a few scrapes. ($750)
All the known examples of this rare semissis are marked with a D, which Fairhead & Hahn regard as an immobilized copying of the Constantinople prototype. However, the discovery of this I mark resurrects the argument that these are indictional year indicators .
