MAURICE TIBERIUS. 582-602 AD. AV Tremissis (1.40 gm). Constantinople mint? Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Cross potent; CONOB. DOC I 14; SB 488. Choice EF. ($200)
Ex Dreesmann collection (Spink, 13 July, 2000), lot 444; Kress 138 (17 April 1967), lot 1664.
The workmanship on this tremissis is rather more tenuous than normally seen, even for this period of crude style busts. There is a possibility of it being a western imitation.
