HERACLIUS. 610-641 AD. AV Solidus (4.36 gm). Uncertain mint. Struck 616-625 AD. Crowned facing busts of Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine, cross above / Cross potent on steps; I in right field, E/CONOB. DOC II -; MIB III 107b.3; SB 929. Choice EF, flan flaw on reverse. ($1000)
MIB proposes a branch mint as the source for a disparate group of solidi, suggesting Rome or Alexandria. The present piece has clear similiarities with the reverse of MIB 107b.3, but the obverse die seems to be a proper Constantinople mint production.
