CONSTANS II. 641-668 AD. AV Solidus (4.44 gm). Ravenna mint. Struck 642-645 AD. Crowned facing beardless bust, holding globus cruciger / Cross potent on steps; C in right field, CONOB. DOC II -; cf. MIB III 128; SB -; E-C 223 (same dies). EF, a few light marks. Extremely rare. ($2000)
This crude Italianate style solidus would seem to fit into the sequence between MIB 124-125 (attributed by Grierson to Heraclonas and by Hahn to Heraclius Constantine) and MIB 128. Ercolani-Cacchi makes a provisional attribution to Ravenna.
