VALENTINIAN II. 375-392 AD. AV Solidus (21mm, 4.31 gm). Constantinople mint. Struck 378-383 AD. D N VALENTINI-ANVS IVN P F AVG, diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right / Constantinopolis seated facing, head right, foot on prow, holding sceptre and globe; CONOB. RIC IX 44b var. (obverse legend break); Depeyrot 32/2 (dated 380-381). VF.

While the dating is not certain, this coin with the addition of IVN to Valentinian's legend suggests that it is from his first issue at Constantinople. Depeyrot disagrees, placing the issue several years into Valentinian's reign, but this cataloguer is at a loss in understanding his reasoning for doing so.
