Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet decorated with a serpent / Nude Taras driving biga right, holding trident in left hand, reins in right; star above, dolphin below horses. Vlasto 19 (same dies); SNG ANS -; SNG Lloyd -; SNG Copenhagen 838 var. (no dolphin); Jameson -; Gulbenkian -; Pozzi 327; Weber -; HN Italy 955. Good VF, light reverse double-strike. Rare. This issue was probably struck at the time of the Tarentine appeal to Sparta for aid against the Lucanians (circa 303-302 BC). Kleonymos was sent with a band of 5000 mercenaries, and the Lucanians were forced to make peace.
