SICILY, Katana. Circa 410 BC. AR Litra (0.84 gm). Head of Silenos left, wearing ivy wreath / KATAN-[AIWN], winged thunderbolt flanked by shields(?). The dies used for this issue are known to be among the finest classical style used in Sicilian numismatics. Understandably, it is even speculated that the engraver of these dies was none other than the master engraver Euainetos. The lifelike features of Silenos and the elegant form of the thunderbolt are certainly reminiscent of some of his work in the Syracusan series.
