LYCIA, Phaselis. Circa 167-130 BC. AR Stater (11.02 gm). Magistrate Artemidoros. Laureate head of Apollo right / F, Athena walking right on galley, brandishing spear in right hand, shield on left arm; APTEMIDWPOC to left. Heipp-Tamer Series 10, 337 var. (same obverse die (V6), but magistrate TIMWN); BMC Lycia -; SNG Copenhagen -; SNG von Aulock -. EF, well centered, light hairlines from prior cleaning, but now starting to retone. ($2000)

This magistrate's name also appears on a half-stater of the same issue, but his name is written APTEMIDWPOC. The unconventional letter form, placement of the ethnic, and general style on both this coin and Heipp-Tamer 337 may indicate that they are later (1st century BC?) strikings, possibly commemorative in nature.
