PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Circa 500 BC. AR Siglos (5.35 gm). Half-length bust of Persian king or hero right, holding bow and arrows / Incuse punch. Carradice Type I (pl. XI, 10); SNG Kayhan -; SNG Copenhagen 278. Toned, nice VF, oval flan showing the entire bust of the king. Rare early type. ($500)

This coin represents the first Persian type (as opposed to Kroesid types borrowed from Lydia) used by the Achaemenid kings. Introduced under Darios I, Type I sigloi were only produced for about two decades.
