KINGS of ELYMAIS. Orodes I. Circa mid-late 1st century AD. Billon Tetradrachm (15.54 gm). 'Orodes' in Parthian script, diademed bust left; behind, four-pointed star in crescent above anchor symbol / Crude diademed bust left, degraded legend. Cf. Alram pg. 146, NB 3; Le Rider, Suse -; cf. BMC Arabia pg. clxxxix and pl. LIII, 12; cf. De Morgan pl. XXXVI, 4 (Kamnaskires D -- called C in text). Toned, nice VF, light porosity. Very rare. ($200)

Ex Classical Numismatic Group 51 (15 September 1999), lot 647.

This is an early transitional type of Orodes I, with simply 'Orodes' rather than 'King Orodes' on the obverse, and a Kamnaskirid-style bust.
