SASANIAN KINGS of PERSIA. Shahpur II. 309-379 AD. AR Obol (0.69 gm). Uncertain mint. Degraded Pahlavi legend, crowned and cuirassed bust right / Degraded Pahlavi legend, fire altar without attendants. Göbl, Kushan -; cf. Göbl Ia/7 (for type); Paruck -; Alram -; MACW -; De Morgan -. Toned, good VF. Apparently unpublished ($200)

Ex Peus 323 (1-4 November 1988), lot 982.

While Göbl contains two specimens of the same type as the present coin, the style of those are certainly different. The most similar coins, stylistically, listed by Göbl are two dinars of Ctesipon mint (Göbl, Kushan 1224-5). In particular, both exhibit the same diadem ties, altar, altar flames, and legend orientation as this obol.
