ARCADIA, Mantineia(?). Antinoüs, favorite of Hadrian. Died 130 AD. Æ Medallion - 37mm (41.09 gm). Veturius, priest of the cult of Antinoüs. BETOV PIOC, bare-headed, heroic nude bust left / TOIC APKACI, horse prancing right. Cf. Blum pg. 36-37: pl. I, 14 for bust type, 18-19 for legend and reverse type; cf. BMC Peloponnesus pg.177, 89 (for reverse type); SNG Copenhagen -. VF, dark green patina with light scratches across the lower bust. Very rare. ($7500)

Although Veturius is not given a title on any of the coins struck in his name, it can be assumed he held a similar position to that of Hostilius Marcellus, named on coins of Corinth (see lot 720).
