PROBUS. 276-282 AD. Antoninianus (3.82 gm). Siscia mint. Struck 277 AD. IMP C PROBVS P F AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust left, wearing aegis and toga picta, holding Victory, which holds palm and wreath, and baton / VIRTVS PROBI AVG, bound captives, one with head reverted, seated on either side of trophy; XXIV. RIC V -; cf. Pink VI/1, pg. 50; Maravielle -; cf. Hunter 183 (gold multiple; radiate and cuirassed bust right, holding Victory on globe and baton); cf. Cohen 942 (radiate bust left, wearing imperial mantle and holding an eagle-tipped sceptre). Superb EF, nearly full silvering. An apparently unique and unpublished bust type. ($500)
