The owl, eagle, and peacock are associated with Minerva, Jupiter, and Juno respectively and represent the Capitoline Triad, a religious grouping whose origins went back to Rome's mythical regal past. Their temple was that of Jupiter Optimus Maximus on the Capitoline Hill.
