BAKTRIA. Sophytes. Circa 305-294 BC. AR Diobol (1.11 gm). Local standard. Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet / Cock standing right, caduceus to left. Bopearachchi, Sophytes 4; SNG ANS 27; MIG 31. VF, porosity. Rare. ($300)

Of all coinage bearing Sophytes' name, this is the only type Bopearachchi did not link to a contemporary issue of Seleukos I. Nonetheless, a rare issue of Seleukos from the mint of Susa bearing a similar style Athena-type, and dated circa 294 BC (SC 181-182), may have been the model for the obverse on this coinage.
