ANTIQUITY. HELLENISTIC ERA. Spain. Bronze coin die. Circa 3rd-2nd century BC. Height: 11mm; diameter of die face: 11mm; weight: 8.69 gm. Plain bronze die punch, with strengthening ring below die face. The die face itself is quite worn, but there is the suggestion of a four-footed animal facing right. Found in Spain. Good condition, dark green patina. Rare example of a Greek coin die. ($300)
A very similar die in the collection of the National Museum of Archaeology in Madrid showing a standing figure of Bes, from the island of Ebusus (
Tesoros, 74). This die may show the bull from the reverse of this coin.
