ANTIQUITY. ROMAN ERA. Roman. Bronze steelyard scale (statera). Circa 3rd-4th Century AD. Length of balance beam: 325 mm (12 3/4 inches). Balance beam with suspension hook (missing) and four hooks for weighing, two hanging from chains on a U-shaped extension which probably held a balance pan. The beam is incised on three sides with graduated lines for pounds and ounces. Cf. A. Mutz,
