HERACLIUS, with HERACLIUS CONSTANTINE. 610-641 AD. AV Solidus (4.59 gm). Carthage mint. Dated indictional year 10/11 (637/8 AD). DN ERACLIO CONSTA PP A, crowned facing busts of Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine; indictional year I / VICTORIA AG , cross on steps; star in right field, indictional year IA//CONOB. DOC II -; MIB III 90 (unlisted year); SB 867. Good VF, light graffiti in reverse field. ($300)
From the Christopher Connell Collection. It is not unusual to find mismatched indictional years on Carthage solidi. In this case, the obverse is dated year 10, while the reverse is from a year 11 die. The variety with star in right field was previously known only for a year 10/9 hybrid. This piece is also noticeably above the typical solidus weight standard.
