Q. Cassius Longinus. 55 BC. AR Denarius (17mm, 3.70 gm). Head of Bonus Eventus right; sceptre behind / Eagle standing right on thunderbolt between lituus and capis. Crawford 428/3; Sydenham 916; Cassia 7. VF.

Q. Cassius Longinus had a long and eventful career, first as moneyer, then quaestor to Pompey in 54 BC and tribune in conjunction with Marc Antony in 49 BC. He later commanded in the war in Spain against the supporters of Pompey, in Africa against Juba, and again in Spain where he narrowly escaped a conspiracy. He died when his ship sank escaping the pursuit of M. Marcellus Aeserninus.
