KINGS of PARTHIA. Mithradates II. Circa October 122 - October 91 BC. AR Obol (11mm, 0.69 gm). Uncertain mint. Struck circa 119-109 BC. Diademed bust left / Arsakes I seated right on omphalos, holding bow. Cf. Sellwood type 24; Shore -; BMC Parthia -. Fine, some reverse roughness. Unpublished denomination for this issue. Unique?

From the Bellaria Collection. Ex Peus 325 (15-16 June 1989), lot 1037 (part of, listed as Mithradates I).

While originally catalogued as an example of Sellwood 11.5 (Mithradates I), it is the opinion of D. Sellwood that this coin is actually an unpublished obol of Mithradates II, Sellwood type 24.

See lot 13 for notes on the reign and coinage of this king.
