SASANIAN KINGS of PERSIA. Shahpur II. 309-379 AD. Æ Unit (24mm, 7.55 gm). Eastern (Sakastan) mint. Crowned and cuirassed bust right; pellet before / Fire altar with no attendants. Göbl,
Kushan 1283; Göbl Ia/7; Alram 802. Fine, brown and red patina. Overstruck on a coin of similar type, but with fire altar with attendants and bust in flames (cf. Göbl,
Kushan 1296).
From the Bellaria Collection.
Göbl did not identify any bronzes for this mint with the reverse type with attendants and bust in flames. As the bronze was apparently a local coinage, it is probable that these two types should be placed at the same mint.
See lot 134 for further notes on the reign and coinage of this king.
