SICILY, Panormos. Punic Occupation. Circa 425-300 BC. AR Didrachm (8.44 gm). Struck circa 425-410 BC. Dog standing right sniffing ground; small female head above / Female head right; three dolphins and Punic legend "SYS" around. Jenkins I, pg. 35, Z1 (O8/Raa - this coin listed as second specimen, reverse enlarged on pl. 2). VF, toned. Extremely rare, only two specimens recorded by Jenkins, the other in the Berlin Museum. The obverse dies for this issue were transferred from Motya, as evidenced by its shared its obverse die with didrachms from Motya. See Jenkins IV, pp. 49-50 for a full analysis of this early issue.
