CILICIA, Tarsos. Datames, Satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia. 384-362 BC. AR Stater (10.26 gm). Struck during the Satraps' Revolt, circa 369-362 BC. Baaltars seated left, torso facing, holding grain ear, grape-bunch, and eagle-tipped sceptre; 'BLTRZ' in Aramaic to right, thymiaterion to left; all within crenellated wall / Ana, nude, facing Datames; both have their right arms raised; between them, thymiaterion and 'TRDMW' in Aramaic; all within square dotted border within linear border; 'ANA' in Aramaic to outer left. SNG Levante -; SNG France 299 = Traité pl. CIX, 14; SNG von Aulock -; SNG Copenhagen -. Good VF, a few areas of redeposited silver, obverse a little rough. Extremely rare with Baal seated left, only one published example of this variety. ($750)
