SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Emesa. Caracalla. 198-217 AD. Æ Tetradrachm (9.44 gm). Dated COS 4 (215-217 AD). Laureate head right / Eagle standing facing, head left, wreath in beak; between legs, radiate and draped bust of Shamash left. Cf. Prieur 969. Good VF, brown patina. A wonderful example. ($200)

Seemingly an official issue, and known from several different mints, these base metal tetradrachms have no visible silver content and no evidence of having been plated.
