DOMITIAN, as Caesar. 69-81 AD. Æ Sestertius (28.12 gm). Rome mint. Struck 76 AD. Laureate head right / Pax standing left, holding branch and cornucopiae. RIC II -; BMCRE -; H.A. Cahn, "Flavia Inedita,"
NumChron (1946), -; Cohen -. Choice VF, dark brown patina, light smoothing. Apparently unpublished. ($500)
This reverse type is known for Domitian in his previous and following series, COS III and V, but not for his COS IIII series. This type, though, is known for Vespasian and Titus' series running concurrent with Domitian's COS IIII group. Thus, the coin confirms the existence of an expected type for this series of Domitian.
