GALERIUS, as Caesar. 293-305 AD. AR Argenteus (3.09 gm). Rome mint. Struck 295-297 AD. Laureate head right / Four tetrarchs sacrificing over tripod before camp gate with six turrets;
z. RIC VI 38b; Jelocnik 87; RSC 208b. Choice EF. ($750)
The wreath-ties on this coin appear to have the short end hanging vertically, which is not standard for this issue at Rome. On close inspection, though, the end of the tie is engraved so as to have a slight curve at the end, unlike the typical rendition of the vertically hanging end. Thus, it is apparently an error in which too little room was left on the die to correctly engrave the wreath end.
