HERACLIUS, with HERACLIUS CONSTANTINE. 610-641 AD. Æ Follis (5.06 gm). Constantinople mint. Uncertain date, struck after 629 AD. Heraclius, holding long cross, and Heraclius Constantine, holding globus cruciger, standing facing / Large M; details obscured by overstriking. DOC II 105; MIB III 164; SB 810. VF, dark green patina. Overstruck on a follis of Galerius, 305-311 AD, with reverse GENIO AVGVSTI and Genius standing left. ($200)
Intriguing specimen showing that the imperial mint was unconcerned with what came through the doors for restriking; a 300 year old coin was as useful as any.
