BYZANTINE. Bronze reliquary cross. Circa 7th-9th century AD. Height, including hanger, 3 3/4 inches (95mm). Nimbate figure of the crucified Christ, arms supported by two busts, two more above and below / Nimbate figure of the Virgin Mary, orans, surrounded by four busts. Attached cylindrical hanger. Nice middle Byzantine provincial style with an attractive green patina. ($1000)
