BYZANTINE. Bronze Bread Stamp. Circa 7th-8th century AD. Length 85mm. A bronze stamp seal with ring handle and the name PROKLOU impressed on it. Used for marking a merchant's wares in the marketplace, as a guarantee of quality. Gray-green patina, the edge of the stamp a bit chipped. ($300)
