ROMAN ERA. Roman. Bronze Sigillum. Circa 3rd-4th century AD. Diameter 68mm. An open-work bronze roundel, with central imperial eagle over globe and marginal legend CON OPTIME MAXIME ("Consul (?) Best and Greatest"). Remains of a shank on the reverse for attachment to standard or similar object. Dark green patina, slightly warped, otherwise choice. Rare seal for a later Roman Consul. ($500)
