MACEDON, Mende. Circa 423 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.61 gm, 11h). Inebriated Dionysos reclining left, holding kantharos, on back of an ass standing right / MEN-DA-I-ON, vine of four grape clusters within shallow linear incuse square. Cf. Noe, Mende 84/85 (obv./rev. dies); AMNG III 20; cf. SNG ANS 346/347 (obv./rev. dies); Dewing 1055 (same obverse die). Good VF, toned, light smoothing in fields. ($2500)
