KINGS of MACEDON. Archelaos. 413-399 BC. AR Stater (10.66 gm, 2h). Aigai mint. Horseman, wearing chlamys and petasos, and holding two spears in his right hand, riding left / AR-C-E-LAO, forepart of goat right, head reverted, within linear border in shallow incuse square. Westermark, Staters, Group 1 (O10/R7; this coin listed as specimen 1, photographed on pl. III); Westermark, Remarks pl. LXIX, 1; AMNG III 1 (same obverse die as plate coin); SNG ANS 64; SNG Alpha Bank 136 (same dies). VF, toned, reverse slightly double struck. Rare first coinage of Archelaos. ($2000)
