KINGS of PAEONIA. Patraos. 335-315 BC. AR Tetradrachm (12.63 gm, 2h). Bare head of Apollo (or Patraos) right /
PA-TRAOU, warrior on rearing horseback right, spearing enemy warrior who defends himself with raised shield. AMNG III 2 (same obverse die as plate coin); Paeonian Hoard 77 (same obverse die); Traité pl. CCCXXVIII, 20 (same obverse die); SNG ANS 1047 (same dies). VF, toned, flan flaw on face, typical die marks. Very rare. ($750)
The obverse head on this particular issue is quite unlike the standard appearance of Apollo on most issues, leading to speculation that it is actually a portrait of Patraos.
