CRETE. Itanos. Circa 300-280 BC. AR Stater (9.94 gm, 6h). Head of Athena left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with palmette / ITANIWN, eagle standing left, head right; in right field, Triton right, holding trident; all within incuse square. Svoronos, Numismatique 35; Le Rider, Crète pl. VIII, 15 (same reverse die); cf. BMC Crete pg. 52, 13 (drachm); cf. SNG Copenhagen 475 (drachm). Good VF, toned, well centered with traces of an undertype. Very rare denomination. ($4000)
