WN across field, Tyche standing left, modius on head, holding patera in right hand, cornucopiae in left. SNG France (Mysia) -; BMC Troas -; SNG Copenhagen -; SNG von Aulock -; Mionnet -. Magistrate not recorded in Münsterberg. VF, matte dark green patina, surfaces slightly rough. A unique and apparently unpublished medallic bronze from Pordoselene. ($1000)
From the Garth R. Drewry Collection. Ex Marcel Burstein Collection (Peus 366, 25 October 2000), lot 606. The only bronze of Severus Alexander for Pordoselene, and the only medallic sized coin for the island. The edge of the coin has been lightly tapped to create a raised rim; sestertii with this edge effect are sometimes referred to as "proto-contorniates." This coin was probably a presentation piece. mounted in a phalera for display. In the Peus catalogue it is described as lead, but in actuality is a poor quality bronze alloy.
