TRAJAN. 98-117 AD. Æ Sestertius (25.66 gm, 7h). Struck circa 104-107 AD. IMP CAES NERVAE TRAIANO AVG GER [DAC P M TR P]COS V P P, laureate bust right, displaying bare shoulder and chest, slight drapery on left shoulder / S P Q R OPTIMO PRINCIPI, S C in exergue, statue of female standing right on pedestal, holding long sceptre in right hand and cornucopiae in left hand; all within octastyle temple set on two-tiered base; facing seated male statue, holding patera in right hand over altar and cornucopiae in left hand, flanked by kneeling statues in pediment; statues as acroteria and along roof line. RIC II 575 var. (laureate head right, aegis at point of bust); Strack 392-; cf. Banti 116 (Ceres); BMCRE 859 var. (laureate head right, slight drapery on left shoulder); Cohen 552 var. (same). VF, mottled green patina with traces of red and brown, minor pitting in obverse legend. Detailed strike and an apparently unpublished bust variety for this type. ($2500)
