ST. THEODORE STRATELATES.10th-11th century. Æ Roundel (50mm, 5.41 gm). Thin bronze plaque with incuse legend OA QE O DO PO C and repoussé half length facing bust of St. Theodore, wearing cloak and cuirass, holding spear and sheathed sword. Choice condition, emerald green patina with only minor wrinkling in the thin bronze. An exceptional example of metalwork from the middle Byzantine period. ($3000)
