SELEUKID KINGS of SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator. 312-280 BC. AR Drachm (16mm, 4.33 gm, 11h). Bablyon II mint. Struck in the name of Alexander III of Macedon, circa 311-308/5 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin headdress / [B]ASILEWS ALEXANDRO[U], Zeus seated left, holding arrow and sceptre; in left field, D above anchor; G below throne. SC 97.1 corr.; Price 3345A corr.; WSM -; SNG Spaer -. Good VF, struck a little off-center. Exceptional for issue.

The controls on this particular coin are an apparent match for SC 97.1, but for the appearance of the royal title. SC cites Price 3345A for this coin, but Price cites an unphotographed coin in a group lot in a Superior auction in 1986. As SC notes that the secondary control may be an alpha rather than a delta it is reasonable to assume that the reverse die used for that coin is the same as that used for the present coin, which also has a delta that looks much like an alpha. Thus, the omission of the royal title in SC is likely a mistake, or else the title was obscured on, or off the flan of, the Superior coin.
