DOMITIAN. 81-96 AD. Æ Proto-Contorniate Sestertius (32mm, 24.98 gm). Rome mint. Struck 86 AD. Laureate bust right, wearing aegis / Domitian standing right, clasping hands with an officer over an altar; three soldiers to the right. RIC II 321; Cohen 502. Fine, green and brown patina. Rare type and highly unusual in that the edges have been hammered to make it into a proto-contoriate medallion.
