ATTICA, Athens. Circa 449-404 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.75 gm, 4h). Helmeted head of Athena right / Owl standing right; olive sprig and crescent behind; all within incuse square. Dewing 1591; SNG Copenhagen 31. VF, slight roughness. ($500)
While the characteristics of the tail feathers and spiral palmette place this example after 449 BC, the fine proportional style of the owl and the head of Athena suggest a very early post-transitional issue.
