SAMARIA. Jeroboam. Circa 375-333 BCE. AR Obol (0.58 gm, 11h). Female head right / "YRB'M", two standing male figures, the left a youth holding branch, the right older, bearded and draped, holding uncertain object (pomegranate?). Meshorer & Qedar 44. VF, dark toning, struck from worn obverse die. ($300)
Meshorer has suggested that Jeroboam might be the Samarian name of Manassas, a Jerusalemite who married Nikaso, the daughter of Sanballat, and became the Samarian High Priest. Although a very tentative theory, if correct it is possible that the female head is Nikaso and the two male figures Sanballat and Jeroboam.
