SAMARIA. Circa 375-333 BCE. AR Obol (0.57 gm, 9h). Helmeted and bearded male head left / Gorgoneion; two sprigs in upper corners, two letters "[-]R" at bottom; all in incuse square. Meshorer & Qedar -. VF, dark toning. ($300)
This gorgoneion is quite different from the only published Samarian coin with the type (MuM 150), and most closely resembles the Gorgon’s head of Macedonian coins, such as those of Neapolis (cf. SNG ANS 423).
