JUDAEA, Herodian Kings. Agrippa II, with Domitian. 50-95 CE. Æ 23mm (11.85 gm, 12h). Caesarea Paneas(?) mint. Dated RY 35 (94-5/5-6 CE). Laureate head of Domitian right / Nike advancing right; date across field. Meshorer 180 var. (date); RPC II 2297 var. (date); Hendin 632 var. (date). VF, encrusted brown patina. Rare last year of issue. ($200)
Although Agrippa II appears to have reigned until at least 100 CE, his coinage stops with this issue of his year 35. It is possible that the royal authority to strike coinage was abrogated after the death of Domitian and the end of the Flavian line, who had been his strong benefactors. All other published coins of this year give the date as
EL rather than
LE.
