SAMARIA, Caesarea Maritima. Trajan Decius. 249-251 CE. Æ 29mm (20.08 gm, 1h). Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Galley sailing left, with four rowers, three ensigns in stern; PORTVS AVGVSTI above. Kadman,
Caesarea, 152; Hendin -; SNG ANS -. Fine, rough dark green patina. ($300)
While Kadman describes only two vexilla on the stern, Rosenberger puts the number at four. This piece, better than either of those specimens, clearly has three.
