CLAUDIUS. 41-54 AD. Æ Sestertius (28.76 gm, 7h). Rome mint. Struck circa 41-42 AD. Laureate head right; c/m: [G]ALBA in incuse rectangle; head left in incuse oval; [NE]RCPP (cancelled) in incuse rectangle / Spes advancing left, holding flower and raising skirt. For coin: RIC I 99; von Kaenel Type 60; BMCRE 124; Cohen 85; for Galba and Nero c/ms: Martini 1.4012; for head left c/m: cf. Martini 1.4087. Very interesting form of
damnatio, as the Nero countermark was intentionally cancelled, probably when the Galba countermark was applied.
