LEONTIUS. 695-698 AD. Æ Follis (3.39 gm, 6h). Ravenna mint. Crowned facing bust, holding globus cruciger; cross on breast(?) / Large M; RAV. DOC II 30; E-C 239; MIB III 39; SB 1358. VF for type, olive green patina, smoothed. Rare. Possibly overstruck. ($500)
E-C 239 is described as a variety with a cross on the breast of Leontius, a feature that may be present on this coin. However, it is unknown whether the cross is merely a remnant of an undertype or part of the intended design.
