[Antiquities]
GRECO-ROMAN. Bronze finger ring. Circa 1st century BC-AD. Inner diameter 20mm. Thin plain band with broad bezel, the flatface engraved in globular style with intaglio of a flying satyr bearing wreath and palm. Amusing Dionysiac reference. Turquoise green patina, a few minor flakes to the edge of the bezel. Unusual. ($200)
The type is obviously an allusion to the Triumph of Dionysos, with a pot-bellied satyr taking the role of the flying Nike.
