KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great'. 336-323 BC. AR Drachm (4.25 g, 1h). Amathos mint. Lifetime issue, struck circa 325-323 BC. Head of Herakles right, wearing lion's skin / Zeus Aëtophoros seated left; in left field, eagle flying left; Cypriot letter by feet. Price 3088 var. (no letter); Amandry,
Amathonte 134B var. (same); Tziambazis 2 var. (same). VF. Well struck. Very rare. ($300)
The Cypriot letter appears on the tetradrachms of this issue (cf. Amandry 134A). The flan of the only plated example of the drachm is too small to reveal the presence of the letter, but it is clearly visible on our example.
