KINGS of BAKTRIA. Nikias. Circa 90-85 BC. AR Tetradrachm (9.02 g, 12h). Bilingual series. Diademed, helmeted, and draped bust right / Athena Alkidemos standing facing; monogram to right. Bopearachchi Série 1A = SNG ANS 1263 var. (no helmet). VF, porous, light cleaning marks. Extremely rare. ($5000)

This coin is the third-known tetradrachm of Nikias. The first, with a different bust type, is in the ANS. The second, of the same type and monogram as the present coin, was recently sold as lot 235 in Numismatica Ars Classica 29.
